At the end of the original Avatar, when the evil humans were kicked off of Pandora, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen when these humans came back to the planet in force. There was nothing stopping them from doing so. Well, that's basically what happens in Avatar: The Way of Water, when Jake Sully and his family must once more take up arms against a new, more powerful human colony that's been built on Pandora. And there's even a special forces team made up of Na'vi avatars, led by the revived Quaritch (Stephen Lang), whose singular mission is to hunt down and kill Jake and his family.
In many ways, the second Avatar film is much better than the first one. It feels more self-assured--both story-wise and in the execution of its story. After Jake and his family take refuge from Quaritch with a water-bourne clan of Na'vi, the action in the sequel switches to the ocean. Because of this new locale, The Way of Water is certainly a gorgeous-looking movie, with the characters now swimming on top of the water and under it in wonderfully imaginative scenes that again pushes the envelope of CGI effects. The ocean scenery proves to be a very nice change of pace.
And everybody goes barefoot throughout the film, making it a very good BF movie--and while there are some BF bondage scenes, I don't count them because they involve minors. Still, this does lead to a very funny line from the youngest kid, Tuk: "I can't believe I'm tied up again!" Avatar: The Way of Water is a satisfying continuation of the epic story, overall. I'm already looking forward to part three.
