The Little Barefoot Girl

I came across this photo of actress Florence Pugh in the upcoming TV mini-series The Little Drummer Girl, which is coming to AMC. This is based on the novel by John le Carré. This book was previously turned into a movie back in the 1980s that starred Diane Keaton. It looks like Pugh will be filling Keaton's shoes--that is, when Pugh actually wears any shoes (no complaints here).

Burning Bright

Burning Bright was an independent film that was released back in 2010.

It starred Briana Evigan as a young woman who gets locked in a house with her little brother by their evil stepfather.

The catch is that the evil stepfather has locked them in with a hungry tiger. He's hoping to get rid of the kids in this manner.

It's safe to say that Miss Evigan has some pretty close calls with the big kitty.

She also goes barefoot through the better part of the movie.

The movie's a pretty good thriller in its own right.

It's Bath Time!

This is from the German series Geliebte Schwestern, or "Beloved Nurses".

But Mareike Fell, who finds herself tied up and gagged in a tub, probably doesn't feel very beloved right now.

Ruth, the evil woman tying our beloved nurse to the tub, is extracting her revenge after the nurse exposed her plot to frame another person.

Will Miss Fell escape, or will she drown in a bathtub of doom?! Fortunately, she's rescued. You can download this clip (I don't know who clipped it) right here.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

I saw Solo: a Star Wars Story for the first time recently. I initially avoided it like the plague because of the so-so reviews and tepid box office that it received, with many people calling this the first big bomb of Star Wars (they obviously haven't seen the Star Wars Holiday Special on TV many years back). But as it turned out, I wound up enjoying Solo immensely. It had some trouble getting started at first, but once Chewbacca showed up, the film picked up for me a great deal.

By the time we get to the great train robbery, things are really rollicking. I liked the "Train Troopers" and wished we saw more of them. I always loved how the Empire has a specialist trooper for every occasion (just like how the real military has specialists and commandos for various missions). Alden Ehrenreich was very good as Han--is he the new Han Solo, will he replace Harrison Ford? Hell no, but he was good enough here. And Donald Glover was superb as a young Lando.

But Emilia Clarke's character, Qi'ra, was the most fascinating one in the film for me. Without giving too much away, she has a tremendously interesting character arc--one that I wouldn't mind seeing continue in either another sequel or maybe a SW novel. This movie actually made me laugh in several spots ("I hate you." "I know.") and I'm looking forward to re-watching it again. Highly recommended.

The Creech and Me

A marine biologist is abducted by unknown forces and is introduced to a fellow captive...who resides in a flooded water tank! You can see these extremely strange doings in my latest Poser picture, which can be seen on my DA page, right here. As always, I hope you like it.

Agora

Rachel Weisz stars in Agora, a movie about Hypatia, the last librarian in charge of the Great Library of Alexandria.

It's 391 AD, and back then, a teacher like Hypatia could teach in her bare feet (being located in Roman-controlled Egypt, the warm weather lent itself to going barefoot a deal deal within the city).

The movie is based on a true story, which details why Hypatia was the last librarian.

I won't give away the ending to the film, although it is based on historical fact that can be looked up separately from the film itself. But Agora is a very well done film with a great, affecting performance by Weisz. It's highly recommended for fans of historical dramas.

The Fall part deux

Gillian Anderson, of X-Files fame, starred in a TV series called The Fall. It was about the hunt for a vicious serial killer in Ireland. Anderson played a British police inspector who was called in to help.

The French remade this series. 'French Guy' (that's his handle) posted some wonderful clips from the remake series over on Brian's Page. Out of all of them, this one is my favorite.

Can you guess why? :)

Captain Marvel (not the Shazam guy)

When I was a boy, back in the 1970s, there was a TV show that aired on Saturday morning called Captain Marvel. It was about a boy, about the same age me at the time, who would turn into a superhero called Captain Marvel just by uttering the word "Shazam!"

Since then, the name Captain Marvel has gone to a female superhero over in the Marvel Comics group. I've never read these comics, and I don't really have any idea who this new Captain Marvel is or why her movie takes place in the 1990s.

But, having said all of that, I really like Brie Larson (she was good in Kong: Skull Island and Free Fire). And I thought it was funny when she crashed through the roof of a Blockbuster in the trailer. Was this the real reason they went out of business? If so, then thanks, Captain Marvel! :)

More Poser fun

A snooping beachcomber decides to check out a cliff side mansion, only to find herself tied, gagged and blindfolded--and not to mention in very deep trouble in my latest Poser picture. You can see this on my Deviant Art page, right here. As always, I hope you like it.

40 Years of Battlestar Galactica

Forty years ago today, Battlestar Galactica aired for the very first time with a three hour episode (that got interrupted by a news report about a potential peace treaty in the Mid-East--at least that was what happened when I first watched it as a kid).

It had its silly moments, but the series also had an truly epic feel to it that most series of that time lacked--including such mind-bending concepts (for a young boy like me then) like the death of an entire civilization. It had world-building (or, in this case, world-destroying) on a scale that was only seen up to that point in Star Trek.

It also had Flight Corporal Rigel, whom I had a major crush on when I was a kid. Seen fleetingly from time to time as she announced departures and arrivals of Vipers from and to the flight bays, Rigel--played by Sarah Rush--was my goddess of the spaceways (and still is).

Happy Batman Day

Happy Batman Day to all out there. We celebrate this time with vidcaps from Batman: The Animated Series, which was the best incarnation of the Dark Knight on TV. The above picture shows Poison Ivy being bested by Batman in the second season episode "Almost Got 'im!" Ivy goes barefoot throughout this Halloween sequence.

The next few pictures are from the second season episode "Day of the Samurai", where Bruce Wayne/Batman has to travel to Japan to save a young kidnapped woman.

The series use of dark colors gives it a wonderfully unique look. And the kidnap victim is barefoot throughout.

Of course Batman saves her (he's Batman, after all). But it was cool having the Dark Knight square off against a real ninja.

The next two are from a personal favorite of mine, "Harley and Ivy," where the two gals team up after the Joker throws Harley out.

Batman actually interrupts the girls' night home, where they're not wearing much clothing. I kind of wished he hadn't done this.

"Harley and Ivy" is also from the second season of Batman: The Animated Series. That second season was really very nice. :)

Scorpion King 3: Third Time's The Charm

In Scorpion King 3: Battle For Redemption (is that title long enough?) Krystal Vee gets captured by the evil King Talus, who ties her to a pole in his tent. She's barefoot and clad in a harem girl outfit.

Later, the goofy looking hero (not The Rock, he left for greener pastures by now) goes into the tent to rescue the fair maiden.

But the fair maiden has plans of her own, which require her to remain tied up in the tent, thank you very much.

Eventually she is rescued by her own men, ninja-clad dudes who beat up the hero and ride off with their leader. Looks like the hero shouldn't have bothered.

Remembering Moonbase Alpha

On September 13, 1999 the moon was blasted out of its orbit, sending the good citizens of Moonbase Alpha on some wild and wacky adventures (like meeting up with Hammer Films legend Christopher Lee, who was clad in full '70s disco garb--which was pretty frigging scary in and of itself).

Nineteen years ago today the moon went away, changing our skies forever (not to mention screwing up surfing as we knew it). Please take a moment today to remember a corny but beloved (hey, cut me some slack, I liked it as a kid!) SF show from the 1970s.

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women

William Marston (Luke Evans) was a Harvard psychologist who was also the creator of Wonder Woman (he also created, with his wife, the life detector machine). This film is a biopic about his life, as well as that of his wife (Rebecca Hall) and their young lover, a female student (played by Bella Heathcote) who at first joins them as an assistant while she was still a college student.

Living as a threesome in the early part of the twentieth century was shocking enough, but Marston and his wives were also into bondage and playacting fantasies, (most of which found its way into the pages of the early Wonder Woman comics written by Marston).

The gist of this film is a drama concerning a trio of people in an unusual relationship who are trying to live their lives, but who keep brushing up against societal conventions seemingly at every turn. It's a very well done movie in this regard, but if you're thinking it might offer you lurid thrills, you'll be disappointed, as that's not its main point.

But as these screen captures show, there is one scene where Bella Heathcote is tied up by Rebecca Hall while Heathcote is dressed somewhat like Wonder Woman. It's a provocative scene that not only signifies the beginning of the bondage in their relationship, but also of the creation of Wonder Woman herself.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women is highly recommended for comic book fans as well as those in the bondage community as being a heartfelt drama in its own right. For as Marston asks in the film, "What is normal?"

More fun with Lara

My version of a certain tomb raider finds herself in a jam (as she is wont to do) until she (maybe) finds a way out. You can check out my latest Poser picture (the above is an old one) right here. As always, I hope you like it.

Halloween is coming

The new Halloween film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and most of the reviews have been very good. It's not officially opening until October (of course) and the final trailer has been released. It's really going to feel like Halloween with Michael Meyers back stalking the neighborhood again.

Hell is a hot forecast

Hannah Herzsprung stars as Marie in Hell, a Swiss-German co-production that's a post apocalyptic story about a group of young folks struggling to stay alive.

The earth is unbearably hot and is just getting even hotter. Marie and her friends seek solace in the mountains, only to run afoul of cannibals.

The scene from Hell is one of my all time favorites, but the film overall is very well made and is recommended for fans of post apocalyptic flicks.

Red Sparrow

Jennifer Lawrence stars in Red Sparrow, a spy movie about a ballet dancer who takes up spying after suffering an onstage injury.

Lawrence gets captured by her own side, who suspect her of being a traitor, and she gets tied to a chair and tortured.

While she's not rescued here, Lawrence's character manages to hang tough and she survives her imprisonment (would be a short movie if the star keels over about halfway through).

There's a scene with Lawrence trussed up in a shower, being sprayed with icy cold water. She's naked, and I can't show pictures of live nudity on here. It's an extremely short, 'blink and you miss it scene' anyway.

Much earlier in the film, Lawrence has to make a quick escape from a hotel with the help of an assassin (who gives her a ride on his bike). Lawrence is barefoot during this scene.
