Danger: Diabolik

 

Danger: Diabolik was a spy/superhero thriller from 1968 that was directed by Mario Bava, who was a really prolific filmmaker back in the 1960s and 1970s. He was known for making movies back to back, making several films in just one year.

 

 Marisa Mell stars as the hero's girlfriend--which, of course, means that she gets captured by the bad guys.

 

She gets tied to a bed in a rough looking neighborhood.

 

But it's not that rough for Diabolok, who rescues her (even though it looks like she might have been able to pick at the knot and work herself free--but never mind).

 

She's tied barefoot, as well, which makes this a favorite of mine. The only problem with this scene is that it's very short, lasting just seconds.

 

But at least she's free to help her weird boyfriend to fight crime--but they better hurry; Mario Bava has to start shooting his next flick very soon.

Ju Dou

In Ju Dou (1990), Li Gong plays the wife of a factory owner who turns out to be a major sadist, as seen here in this scene.

It's very brief, but effective. While her feet aren't feet, her hands are and she is barefoot. You can see the clip right here.

Haywire

Gina Carano stars in the action flick Haywire. This film was actually her breakout role, and it's an enjoyable action film with a woman in the lead.

Here's a shot of her going barefoot (it's pretty much the ONLY shot of her going BF in the film) while she answers her door.

Carano has gone on to star in many more movies, but I really liked her in The Mandalorian. I'm glad to hear that she'll be coming back in the second season.

Later in Haywire, she beats the shit out of Michael Fassbender (who was trying to kill her, but she was ready for him).

The spy game has plenty of surprises--and when a date goes bad, it REALLY goes bad.

At least Carla ditches her shoes shortly before the fight begins. Maybe Baby Yoda can use the Force to pull Carla's boots off in the second season of Mando. Hey, you never know....

Lady in the Water

Bryce Dallas Howard stars with Paul Giamatti in M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water, which was released back in 2006.

Howard, the daughter of film director Ron Howard, is found in the swimming pool of an apartment complex by Giamatti, who plays the complex's maintenance guy.

Howard's character turns out to be from another dimension--which she's trying to get back to--and she's being hunted by a wolf-like creature called a Scrunt, who skulks around the apartment complex.

Howard's character also goes barefoot for the entirety of this film.. She's from a water-based race of people.

Howard previously acted for Shyamalan on The Village. She directed one of the episodes of The Mandalorian on Disney +.

My favorite Shyamalan films are his trilogy of underrated "superhero" films: Unbreakable/Split/Glass. But I also can't help but admire any movie that has its lead actress going barefoot throughout its running time.

The tied spectator

In this unknown Asian TV show (or is it a movie?), a bound and gagged woman is forced to watch as her boyfriend battles the man who kidnapped her.

She's tied up while barefoot throughout the scene.

I've tried tracking down both the name of this production, as well as the name of the damsel, but came up short.

Not only are her tied bare feet clearly seen, but she even has a moment where she uses her bound feet to kick a gun over to the hero. Very nice. You can see the clip right here.

Singing barefoot

In the singing while shoe-less category, here's Amanda Jenssen, performing her song, When We Dig For Gold in the USA, while barefoot. Would she also go barefoot if she dug for gold in the USA? I certainly wouldn't mind.
