Happy Alien Day

Happy Alien Day! This is the unofficial holiday for fans of the Alien film series (like me). It's derived from the designation of LV-426, the human colony that comes under attack by a horde of the critters in James Cameron's classic Aliens.

Here's a shot of Katherine Waterson taking it easy on what should be a national holiday (it's actually a shot of her from Alien: Covenant). When Fox was bought out by Disney, I feared that would be the end of the Alien film series, but I was heartened to hear Disney recently announce that they will continue making new Alien movies (under the Fox banner). So enjoy Alien Day, and stay away from any oversized eggs.

Alien Covenant sets

I think I must be one of five people who actually enjoyed Alien: Covenant, the most recent (and possibly last) film in the Alien film franchise. I own the film on Blu-Ray and even have a Funko Pop of Daniels, its main character played by Katherine Waterston.

This video shows several major sets for that film being constructed in time-lapse. It's a cool look into film-making, as well as set building. It's remarkable how they can re-use a set in two different scenes and still make it look entirely different. It's basically the magic of movie making in its purest form.

Alien Covenant

I managed to see Alien Covenant recently, and I enjoyed it very much. While it's not a masterpiece like the original Alien and Aliens were, it's still a very entertaining film that delivers the scares within a gripping story. I liked it so much that I was sorry to see it under perform at the box office. Director Ridley Scott wants to make more Alien films, and I hope he gets that chance. Maybe people will discover Alien Covenant on video.

Note: I just realized I misspelled 'covenant' in the title. It's been fixed. Damn these typos. :)

Alien: Covenant | Prologue: The Crossing

There's an official prologue that's been released for Alien Covenant. It looks like scenes that might have been cut from the final film but were reused to make this prologue, which takes place between Prometheus and Covenant.

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Covenant, and I really enjoyed seeing this clip, which reunites us with two characters from Prometheus. I love how the Alien series is now turning into its own complex cinematic universe. Alien Covenant comes out on May 19.

Alien: Covenant Movie Clip

Yesterday we were talking about the discovery of seven alien worlds in another solar system that can support human life. Today Fox released a promo clip for their upcoming movie Alien: Covenant.

This scene is a prologue that takes place before the events of the film. It will not be in the film itself, so if you watch it you won't be spoiled. It has some nicely ominous foreshadowing. I'm really looking forward to this flick.

Also, all this talk about science fiction and real-life discovery of alien worlds over the past few days has made me want to write another science fiction novel. I'm still hard at work on the tenth Ryta book, and won't stop until that's done, but I'm seriously thinking of taking another side trip into science fiction territory.

Meanwhile, you can read my SF book, A Daughter of Ryklon, right here.

Alien-inspired pic on DA

There's a new Alien movie coming out, directed by Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien film back in 1979. The recently released trailer is above. It looks like it's going to be very good. I can't wait to see it (but I have to, it comes out in May, 2017).

Warning, this is a red band trailer, which means it's not safe for work, or for the kiddies.

An oncoming Alien film has inspired me to do a new Poser picture, with a woman waking up to find a nasty surprise in her stasis pod. You can see this picture right here.
