The Court Jester starred Danny Kaye as...well, a court jester, back in the golden age of castles and knights and all that stuff.
The musical also co-starred Glynis Johns, who goes barefoot pretty much throughout the entire movie.
The traditional roles are reversed in The Court Jester. While Kaye is the goofy, nutty comedy guy who shies away from a fight, Johns plays a real (barefoot) swashbuckler who never runs from a fight.
Glynis Johns was actually born in South Africa in 1923. Her mother was on tour in SA as a concert pianist when little Glynis decided it was time to make her big debut.
Johns went on to appear in Mary Poppins, The Ref, and While You Were Sleeping. Her last credit, before she retired, was the film Superstar in 1999.
She appeared with Angela Lansbury in The Court Jester, and would co-star with Lansbury later in an episode of Murder, She Wrote.
One of the rare Hollywood movies fearuring a barefoot heroine who wasn't a jungle girl.
