I noticed as I was channel-surfing through the streaming realms that Lady in the Water is currently playing on HBO-Max.
Lady in the Water is one of about a dozen movies that were written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who specializes in supernatural films with a big plot twist. Some are really great (The Sixth Sense, Split) others not too great (After Earth, The Happening).
Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of film director Ron Howard, stars as Story, a mermaid-like woman who appears in the swimming pool of an apartment building.
She becomes friends with the building's super, played by Paul Giamatti, who hides her in his apartment from the neighbors--along with some scary monsters.
But the important thing about Lady in the Water is that Bryce goes barefoot throughout the film's entire running time.
Bryce Dallas Howard also starred in Night's The Village (where she wore shoes the whole time) and the Jurassic World films (ditto about the shoes). She's directed two episodes of The Mandalorian for Disney+, and is currently working on her film directing debut. You can presently catch Lady in the Water in all of her BF glory on HBO-Max.
