Dark Angel

Dark Angel was an SF TV series that ran on the FOX network back in 2003. It was co-created by James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar).

Jessica Alba stars as Max, a genetically engineered woman whose special powers doesn't prevent her from being captured from time to time.

In the first season episode Cold Comfort, Max and a male friend are taken prisoner by soldiers who lock them inside separate jail cells.

Max is barefoot throughout the captivity scene--her shoes having been removed by her captors--and her wrists are bound together before her.

A soldier tries to stop Max from biting at the bonds on her wrists, but she goes ahead and frees her hands anyway, figuring that he's not about to kill her for untying herself.

Max and her friend eventually free themselves. Dark Angel took place in the "far-flung" future of 2020. We didn't have to deal with an EMP attack, as the show wrongly predicts, but the pandemic was just as devastating.
