HBO Max is running Introducing Dorothy Dandridge right now. Released on HBO back in 1999, the biopic stars Halle Berry, who won a Golden Globe for her performance as Dorothy.
Directed by Martha Coolidge, IDD re-creates a scene from the film Tarzan's Peril, in which Dorothy stars in as a jungle queen.
And of all of the scenes in Tarzan's Peril they could have re-created, Coolidge and her team chose the moment where Dorothy's jungle queen character is rescued by Tarzan while bound and gagged in a hut.
And so we have these wonderful shots of a barefoot and bound Halle Berry struggling mightily against her bonds.
Tarzan breaks through the straw wall of the hut to come to her rescue.
Tarzan showing up also offers some more nice shots of Berry's bound feet.
The movie's scene--along with the fourth wall--is broken when the actor playing Tarzan starts having trouble cutting Halle's feet free. The director calls cut here. Released just a year before she would play Storm in the first X-Men film, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge also stars Brent Spiner--Data from Star Trek: TNG--as Dorothy's agent.
