Doctor Who and the Mummy

Back when Peter Capaldi played the doctor, he did an entertaining episode called Mummy on the Orient Express (episode 8 of season 8--first aired Oct, 2014).

The Doctor was aboard a spacecraft version of the Orient Express with his companion at the time, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman).

Clara had a really nice BF scene in this episode, where she's trying to decide something while just in her pajamas.

She tosses and turns in her bed aboard the futuristic train. All while barefoot.

Then she gets up and puts on a robe in order to speak with the Doctor. She's still barefoot.

Nice (and rare) shot of Clara going barefoot for a moment in a Doctor Who episode.

She had quite the walk down this sleeper car, here, didn't she?

The climax of the episode has Daisy Beaumont as Maisie Pitt going barefoot in her pajamas and robe.

I want my Mummy

In series eight of Doctor Who, there's a really fun episode called Mummy on the Orient Express, where the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) go aboard the Orient Express, which has been rebuilt as a spaceship.

At night Clara retreats to her private room to call her boyfriend, and she's barefoot and dressed in her pajamas.

I love seeing scenes like this, where a character just lays back and chills out.

Clara puts on a robe and goes to the Doctor's room, where she knocks on his door, but he's not home. She's still BF.

When I first saw this episode, I was hoping that Clara would remain like this for the rest of the ep.

But my hopes were dashed, because when she realized the Doctor wasn't in (groan), Clara went back to her room and got dressed again.

But the character Maisie (Daisy Beaumont) winds up going barefoot through the better part of the episode. Aside from the BF aspect, Mummy on the Orient Express is one of the better Doctor Who episodes with Peter Capaldi.

The Doctor is in

Came across this nice picture of Jodie Whittaker, AKA the new Doctor Who, online recently and I just had to share it. I've only seen the first two episodes of her run as the good Doctor, but I really liked her. I want to see more of Jodie's take on the Doctor, but I'm waiting until her season is done so I can just get the whole thing and watch it at once.

This is the result of the 'Netflix Effect,' where I'm now used to watching an entire season within a weekend, thanks to Netflix 'dropping' the whole season all at once. I do the same thing with the CW Superhero shows; I just wait until their whole seasons show up on Netflix.

I realize that this is a First World problem, but the old-school 'one episode a week' method of watching TV now seems annoying to me.

The New Doctor

It took me a while, but I finally managed to see the first episode of Doctor Who with Jodie Whitaker as the good Doctor. In short, I loved it, and I really like Whitaker as the Doctor. She brings a brighter, cheerier mood to what was becoming a morose TV show under Peter Capaldi. I liked Capaldi very much as the Doctor, but he was saddled with some lame scripts, particularly in his last season.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the TARDIS looks like under this new Doctor's care. I really enjoyed Whitaker's more light-hearted take on the Doctor, and I hope she stays with the role for a good long time.

Meet the new Doctor

If you don't want to be spoiled as to who the new Doctor Who is, then watch the official introduction video first, right up there. It's very well done. I'll wait.

Oh, hey, welcome back! After over fifty years the new Doctor is finally a woman. She will be played by Jodie Whittaker, who's been in the series Broadchurch (which starred David Tenant, a former Doctor Who, and was written and produced by Chris Chibnall, who is taking over the show-runner duties on the eleventh series of Doctor Who).

Whittaker has also been in Attack The Block (with John Boyega, who went on to play Fin in Star Wars: The Force Awakens), and Black Sea, with Jude Law. I really liked how they introduced her as the Doctor while in character in this short video. I'm really looking forward to seeing what she'll do with the part once her series properly begins.

Who should play Who?

Peter Capaldi, who plays Doctor Who, will be leaving after the upcoming tenth season. This video clip from What Culture gives some suggestions as to who can play the character after Capaldi leaves.

My favorite of the bunch is Haley Atwell, who played Agent Carter in the Captain America movies, as well as on the Agent Carter TV show on ABC (before it was cancelled). She's a great, personable actress who can easily carry a series.

Of course, having a female Doctor would change the whole dynamic with the Doctor's Companions, who are usually female. But the older Doctors from the seventies and eighties occasionally traveled with male companions, so there's no law saying the female Doctor can't have a female companion, either. She could also do what Matt Smith's Doctor did, when he traveled with Amy and Rory, and have a man and a woman companion team.

Another interesting choice here is Tim Roth, from Reservoir Dogs, and Rupert Grint, who played Ron in the Harry Potter films. We still have a lot of time before the final decision is made, of course. But it's always fun to consider the possibilities, which is what Doctor Who is really all about, anyway.
