The Ring

In 2002, director Gore Verbinski would helm the American remake of the Japanese horror film Ringu.

Naomi Watts starred as a reporter who investigates a strange series of deaths involving people who die one week to the day after watching a mysterious video tape.

The first victim of this strange curse (at least the first one shown in the film) is Katie, played by Amber Tamblyn. A young woman who prances around her home barefoot.

She keeps hearing and seeing strange things in her house on the night that's exactly a week after watching the videotape.

When I first saw this movie, I was hoping Katie would become a sleuth and investigate these weird goings on, hopefully while sans shoes.

Unfortunately for Katie, this was not meant to be.

The reporter played by Naomi Watts later goes to visit Becca, who was with Katie the night she died. Becca, played by Rachael Bella, has wound up in a mental hospital.

And Becca goes barefoot while she's in the hospital.

There's also a fun scene with Watts scrambling around her bedroom, barefoot, as she struggles to find something to wear to Katie's funeral.

The Ring is also a very well done horror film that's highly recommended. It has a great mystery at its center that makes it fascinating to watch as Watson slowly unravels it in her investigation. But avoid the sequel.
