Inherent Vice is basically a private detective story set during the height of the hippie movement in California (which was ground zero for this culture).
The nice thing about Inherent Vice is, in re-creating this period, they have their cast go barefoot for the better part of the film's running time.
There's one big scene with Katherine Waterson and Joaquin Phoenix running around in the rain (with Waterson BF throughout it).
But there are BF moments scattered throughout the film, making it worthwhile to watch IV in its entirety.
Think of it as being kind of like The Maltese Falcon--only with everybody, good guys and bad guys, stoned out of their minds.
It works, especially if you're looking for something different (and with a lot of BF scenes).
This film was also my first introduction to the divine Katherine Waterson (Alien: Covenant, the Fantastic Beasts films). Here, she's swinging one (very dirty) bare foot behind her while in the throes of passion.
