Yesterday, August First, was the 40th anniversary of the release of The Final Countdown. It's a science fiction movie about the U.S.S. Nimitz--a real-life aircraft carrier--getting thrown back to the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Starring Kirk Douglas as the Captain, along with Martin Sheen as a civilian observer, this is a fun romp that was actually filmed aboard the Nimitz, even using its fighters in some spectacular aerial shots.
But when I re-watched this classic just last night, in honor of its release forty years ago, I also noticed something else.
Katharine Ross, who's the only female cast member here, goes barefoot for a good portion of the film's running time.
Although I'm not sure I envy her going barefoot through that blood-splattered hallway. Still, BF scenes are nice to see in a movie that already has plenty to recommend.
