One of the best things--hell, the only good thing--to come out of the horrific interstellar (and ongoing) mess that is Star Trek Discovery was Anson Mount as Captain Chrisopher Pike. He was calm, confident and engaging, which made me wonder just what he was doing on that shitfest of a TV series.
And, what do you know? They gave Anson Mount's Pike his own series. Pike was Captain of the Enterprise long before James T. Kirk took over, and judging from just the opening episode that I saw, Star Trek Strange New Worlds looks fantastic. Under Pike's assured command, Starfleet officers are once again capable heroes that we can enjoy watching solving problems.
No multi-part, interconnected soap opera bullshit here. SNW tells its stories in self-contained episodes. It's a grand space adventure which gives this Captain Pike the spotlight he deserves. I like the crew they give him, which consists of all good actors, and you can't go wrong with the magnificent starship they're all on. With Strange New Worlds, it finally feels like Star Trek is back.
