Black Widow

When I heard that Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney for lack of payment on the Black Widow movie, I couldn't help but think of this scene from a Black Widow comic book run.

Not that this panel has any relevance to the real life situation (and I wish Scar Jo the best of luck with it), but I just couldn't stop thinking about this scene, thanks to all the renewed talk about Black Widow in the media. It's one of my favorite comic book scenes, thanks to the lovely, and tightly bound, BF woman on the bed.

Black Widow

I saw Black Widow--finally!--over the weekend, and I enjoyed it very much. I watched this directly on Disney+ through their Premier Acess program, and I discovered that I now own a digital copy of BW (at least for as long as I'm subscribed to D+). Taking place right after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow finds herself on the run from just about everybody.

At least she has help in her family. "What family?" you might ask. The BW film establishes that Nat was part of an undercover spy operation where she posed as part of an American family when she was a child. Her younger "sister," Yelena, is engagingly played by Florence Pugh. Yelena basically comes off as sort of a mini-version of her big sister Nat, and it works very well. Pugh makes Yelena greatly sympathetic. And she handles herself very well in the action scenes.

Other standouts in the cast are Rachel Weisz (the 1999 Mummy) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Nat's "parents," who still bicker like an old couple. The Taskmaster makes for a formidable foe, and the action scenes overall are stellar. Scarlett Johansson is superb, as always, and will be missed all the more (the events of Endgame are being strictly adhered to). We should have received this movie a whole lot sooner, but better late than never.

I've posted this before, but it's one of my favorite pages (can you guess why?) from the comics. This is from issue number six of the Black Widow comic, long before ScarJo took over the character and did such a good job at making the cinematic Black Widow her own.

Black Widow

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally giving me what I've wanted for a while, now: a stand-alone Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson. I can't tell from this trailer if she has any scenes of interest for us--and you never know. I mean, who knew Captain Marvel would deliver a BF bondage scene?

But whether Black Widow has a scene or not, I still want to see it because it stars Scarlett. Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz, two more favorites of mine, also co-star in this. So consider me sold.
