Amazonia

Back in the 1980s, I first came across the B-movie Amazonia in a video store. Thanks to the VHS tape's striking cover, seen above, I was eager to watch this. It was based on a true story of a woman, left for dead in the jungles, who's adopted by a tribe in the Amazon. But the movie itself was very clearly an exploitation film.

The actress in the film is tied to a pole and carried by the natives, like in the cover artwork--but unlike the cover, she's fully dressed.

Plus we never really get a good shot of her hanging from the pole (I suspect they might have been trying to hide the fact that it was not the lead actress but a double hanging from the pole).

Once she's adopted into the tribe, our heroine is never tied up again, but she loses her clothes. While she goes barefoot and clad only in a loincloth throughout the film, she also goes topless. I can't show you any of these scenes because of the non-nudity clause with the host of this blog.

I remember still trying to get my own copy of this film in the 1980s, just so I could get the cover. But I was young and broke (brand new VHS movies were going for $80 to a $100 each--and second hand dealers were pretty sparse). Thankfully it has since been released on the (much cheaper) DVD format.
